The aromas are a little heavier, with ripe dark fruit and a fragrant, floral note. It's a little less finely detailed aromatically than the 2021, with some smoke, spice and green herb qualities. The palate is round, medium-full bodied with juicy, bright acidity. It's a very friendly wine with very fine tannins and there's a little more grip and silty texture to the tannins."

The Story Behind the Wine:

Guidalberto, introduced by Tenuta San Guido in 2000, is named after Guidalberto della Gherardesca, an ancestor known for his innovative agricultural practices in Bolgheri during the early 19th century. The 2020 vintage is a harmonious blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. The growing season began with a humid autumn and early winter, followed by a cooler period in February. Spring arrived early with mild temperatures, but late March experienced a sharp drop, leading to some night frosts. Summer was hot with minimal rainfall, except for early July, which helped maintain vine health. The harvest commenced at the end of August with Merlot and concluded in September with Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 15 months in both French and American oak barrels, with 20% being new oak.
