89 points. "The NV Visciole Querciantica (Lot# 215335) opens like a freshly poured glass of pure cherry juice blended with hints of candied orange and mint. It’s silky in texture, with a pronounced inner sweetness that’s nicely complemented by notes of cranberry sauce, cloves and dried roses." – Vinous Media.

The Story Behind the Wine

Established in 1984 by Angela and Ercole Velenosi, the Velenosi winery has grown from a modest 9 hectares to an expansive 148 hectares, producing 2.5 million bottles annually distributed across 52 countries. Their vineyards, situated in the hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea at nearly 1,000 feet above sea level, benefit from clay and limestone soils that impart finesse and structure to their wines. Collaborating with esteemed winemaker Attilio Pagli, recognized by Decanter Magazine as one of the world's top 30 winemakers, Velenosi continues to elevate the profile of Marche's indigenous varietals.

The Vino e Visciole is crafted using an ancient variety of wild cherries (Prunus cerasus) known for their dark red color and slightly acidic taste. These cherries are harvested in early July and macerated with sugar to create a rich syrup, which is then blended with Lacrima Superiore wine, resulting in a distinctive and flavorful dessert wine.

Pairing Suggestions

This wine pairs exquisitely with dry pastries, chocolate cakes, and jam tarts. Its sweet and fruity profile also complements aged cheeses and can be enjoyed as a delightful end to a meal.
