The Story Behind the Wine:

Founded in 1890, Bodegas Manzanos is not only one of the oldest wineries in Spain but also a key player in the creation of the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOC) Rioja, one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions. Located in Haro, the wine capital of Rioja, Manzanos was instrumental in shaping the modern Rioja wine industry. Haro is renowned for its deep wine history and is home to some of the most iconic Rioja wineries. The town’s elevated location in the Ebro Valley offers ideal conditions for growing Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha—the key grapes in this blend.

The Manzanos Reserva 2016 is made from 50% Tempranillo, 30% Graciano, and 20% Garnacha, aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by 12 months in the bottle. This wine embodies the legacy of the Manzanos family, who have expertly blended tradition with innovation over five generations. Haro’s significance in the wine industry, with its legendary wine festival and rich winemaking history, is reflected in this wine’s balance of power, structure, and finesse.

Perfect Pairings:

  • Red Meats: Best paired with roasted lamb or grilled steak.
  • Cheese: Enjoy with aged Manchego or similar hard cheeses.

Winemaking & Terroir:

The vineyards are located in the high-altitude calcareous clay soils of Rioja, benefiting from Haro’s unique microclimate. The long aging in French and American oak barrels imparts depth and complexity, with smoky and spicy notes that complement the wine’s fruit-forward profile.
