Conte Giangirolamo IGT Primitivo Negroamaro 2017 🇮🇹

The 2017 Conte Giangirolamo is a distinguished Italian red blend from Puglia, artfully combining 50% Primitivo and 50% Negroamaro grapes. This Southern Italian wine showcases the region's rich viticultural heritage, offering a harmonious balance of bold flavors and elegant structure.

Critic Review and Score: "This 50/50 blend of Primitivo and Negroamaro brings together rich elements of black cherry, blackberry jam, cedar, cinnamon, and clove. There's so much power and drive behind it all, with firm tannins and pulsing acidity lending support. It's a bruiser, but an enjoyable one." — Alexander Peartree, Wine Enthusiast.

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: Intense ruby red with violet hues.

  • Nose: Aromas of black cherry, blackberry jam, complemented by notes of cedar, cinnamon, and clove.

  • Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious, featuring flavors of dark fruits intertwined with elegant spices, supported by firm tannins and vibrant acidity.

  • Finish: Long and lingering, leaving a pleasant impression of rich fruit and subtle spice.

The Story Behind the Wine: Tenute Girolamo, established in 2001, is nestled in the Itria Valley of Puglia, Italy. The winery spans 40 hectares across eight vineyards situated between 350 to 450 meters above sea level. Under the expertise of winemaker Benedetto Lorusso, Tenute Girolamo produces wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The 2017 Conte Giangirolamo is crafted from a 50/50 blend of Primitivo and Negroamaro, two signature red varieties of Puglia. The grapes are sourced from vineyards at 450 meters elevation, planted in calcareous clay soils. Fermentation occurs over 15-20 days at controlled temperatures, followed by malolactic fermentation in 10,000-liter oak casks. The wine matures in French oak barrels for 22 to 24 months and is further aged in bottles for six months before release.

Pairing Suggestions: This robust red pairs excellently with grilled meats such as steak or lamb, hearty pasta dishes, and aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano. Its rich fruit and spice profile also complement savory stews and barbecued ribs.
